That's exactly what I needed. After you pointed me there I found that  was still referencing the Mod Organizer. After changing it's target path to NexusClient. exe it now successfully launches and downloads using the NXM like before. You have very much gratitude from me, especially as you're helping me to stop using something and not trying to encourage me to continue using it. Thank you for your help, thank you for the solution, and thank you for actually offering support to someone in my situation.

To my knowledge NMM installs itself to HKLM, so it applies the nxm connection to all users. MO installs itself to HKCU, so it applies only to the current user, thus doesn't replace NMM in HKLM. Actually the file you directed me to Tannin is already referencing NexusClient. Only the file DoubleYou specified was still pointing to MO. If that information helps you for future reference. Asked by Quitch , April 21, This is a newly built machine, so no cruft from previous modding tools. Working through STEP so have installed Wrye Bash and Mod Organizer. I setup the NXM association and attempt to download a random mod via Chrome. The link looks good, but clicking Launch Application causes the box to disappear but nothing to happen. I checked the location and the EXE is there along with an ini. Did you change the version of NMM used in MO? I think at the moment its 0. You could also try deleting all nexus link references from windows default programs and then and then reassociate them with MO.

Another option is to install nmm and associate the nexus links with that. Uninstall nmm and reassociate the links with MO. Edit: Be sure to run MO as an admin when associating it with nexus links, just in case. It was set to version 0. I tried using Internet Explorer, it said no application was associated with NXM files. I loaded Mod Organiser as an admin again and hit the association button, but nothing. I ran the installer again as an admin, but still nothing. If I close Mod Organiser and then hit the "Launch Application" button in Chrome it doesn't actually launch MO. EDIT: Got it working. I loaded nxmhandler. exe and registered the primary handler as active even though it matched what it was already set to.

I did this both as a user and admin. One of these fixed the issue. MO registers as nxm handler only for the current user because its not supposed to be run as administrator. Well when we're talking about "run as administrator" I'm talking about UAC in AAM, so it's the same user with elevated privileges. But regardless, I did it both elevated and unelevated every time because it clearly wasn't working. If your current user account is an administrator account then you did the same thing twice. BOTH fix the issue. It doesn't matter if you do it as user or admin because both are the same. UAC doesn't matter, the registration happens in a region of the registry that doesn't require elevation to change anyway. If your current user account is not and administrator account then you registered MO to handle nxm links for two separate users. Yes, one of these fixed the issue , in the same way a shotgun can "fix" a buzzing fly You are misinterpreting him.

Try not to be so defensive, and consider that he answers lots of questions as the developer. I can understand your frustration and the potential to misinterpret, but Tannin's post is obviously does not contain a personal insult although you may have been insulted your post does. He was just being precise in identifying the likely issues and correcting any misinformation that might be gleaned by other users perusing this thread. You try to stay polite when people offer "run it as administrator" as a solution when that is the top cause people have issues with your software in the first place. Imho it's also informative. But let me rephrase what I said to make it potentially more useful:. If the first is true then all actions that affect "current user" will affect that one user, no matter if you started an application as "run as administrator" or not. In this case the problem you described shouldn't have occured, at least I wouldn't know why.

In the second case, actions that affect "current user" when running with "run as administrator" will only affect other applications running as administrator. Example: if you run MO as administrator and register the nxm handler then nxm links will only work if you always start your browser as administrator as well. Considering you have MO installed in "Program Files" you probably have to run it as administrator. You probably wouldn't run your browser as administrator because most people don't. Therefore I concluded that that was exactly your problem. Good read tannin, didn't know that running as an admin was different in different accounts. Always good to learn something new. My advice was based on other programs 7zip which fails to register file associatios if I don't run it as an admin. I only have one user account, which of course is an administrator. The other two advice's has fixed this exact problem for me twice.

I suspect it is a chrome bug since it have had problems with magnetic torrent links in the past. Might not be related at all and my guessing might be totally off. dreadflopp: Software can create a file association web protocols is the same thing either for the current user or the whole machine.
